Green Apple Foundation

Green Apple Foundation

Green Apple is a revolutionary force for change in Cartagena, Colombia shifting the way people and businesses think about sustainable hospitality. Set up in 2017 by Portia Hart (Co-Founder of Blue Apple Beach House and Townhouse, Cartagena) and environmentalist Caitlin Oliver, Green Apple Foundation is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to implementing long-lasting change in the way waste and natural resources are managed by the hospitality industry in Cartagena. The foundation also focuses on creating sustainable, positive employment opportunities for local people. The seed for Green Apple was sown at Blue Apple Beach House, a boutique hotel and beach club on the island of Tierra Bomba, looking to improve its environmental and social responsibility, whilst maintaining economic prosperity and cultural vibrancy. It is atop these four pillars that the foundation exists to:

  • reduce waste sent to landfill
  • encourage a circular economy
  • create jobs in sustainability
  • encourage entrepreneurship
  • change habits and mentalities of business owners and customers
  • inspire (and pressure) big suppliers to join in and take responsibility
